In Eliade's own words: "Every [form] disintegrates, nothing that has existed until then subsists after immersion."

entry description
Water has been considered as the source of our existence and of all life on earth. Present in all the manifestations of which we are aware, water always implies regeneration, immersion in water implies a "dissolution", a transition that is also associated with a new birth. That function of the waters, always present, to cleanse, disintegrate, purify, is also related to its impossibility of adopting a form. Everything capable of taking shape now enters the realm of the mundane, submits to the rules of time and life and therefore, if it is not regenerated periodically through water, it ends up corrupting and disappearing: We return to renewal again , by being reborn through immersion in the water that gives us life.
