Spirit of Ice
To me, this is when Lake Erie is at it's best. A thick surface of ice shifts and flows ever so slowly in winter and creates very 'eerie' (no pun) variations of color and texture. Wind storms and the pressure from these massive sheets of ice cause 'ice stacking' which presses the ice up into huge chunks and stacks upward, which create 'ice mountains' that can reach twenty five feet high or more. Incredible, natural formations occur on the surface that can only be found from a great height. The colors are not manipulated, they are original to each shot.
It is a hidden beauty few people have seen and during the cold months of winter, most just see Lake Erie as a vast white landscape of nothing. Little do they know of the amazing natural works of art that exist!

entry description
This unique series of aerial drone shots tells the story of an alien landscape you can only find from looking straight down at the surface of the great lakes in the United States during a long, cold winter. Lake Erie in particular (shallowest of the great lakes) will freeze twelve inches thick or more if it stays below freezing for the duration of the season. To me, this is when Lake Erie is at it's best.
