Above the Clouds: Mt. Hood
Dan’s work has been featured in juried exhibitions at galleries including the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, Praxis Gallery, Black Box Gallery, SE Center for Photography, and WithinSight Gallery. His images have earned Honorable Mentions and Finalist placements in competitions such as the Annual Photography Awards, Chromatic Photography Awards, One Eyeland Photography Awards, and Creative Quarterly. Dan’s series It’s a Matter of Time received an Honorable Mention in the Praxis Gallery Landscapes Exhibition and a Bronze Award in the Tokyo International Foto Awards.
Dan earned a BBA in Marketing and Management Science from St. Bonaventure University. Following a 33-year career at Xerox—where he held leadership roles including VP of Sales and Marketing - Dan is now an instructor at Chicago Photography Classes and volunteers with FreshLens Chicago. In 2025, Dan was honored with the FreshLens Chicago “Lens of Hope” Award for his volunteer efforts and support of the organization.

On this morning, we had a 3 a.m. wake-up call followed by a two-hour drive to reach Trillium Lake in Oregon. My goal was to capture the sunrise with the towering Mt. Hood in the background. As we arrived at our destination, clouds began to roll in. It was still dark, and the success of our efforts was uncertain. Using the light from a cell phone, we made our way down the path to the lake and waited. Blue hour arrived, revealing a glimpse of Mt. Hood's peak. With the spectacular cloud line in sight, I set up for a long exposure to capture both the serenity and movement of the scene. A shade of pink complemented the blue hour sky, highlighting the majestic Mt. Hood. Our efforts were rewarded with a sensational Oregon morning.about the photographer
Dan Scott is a photographer based in Chicago, IL, originally from Glens Falls, NY. Growing up in the Adirondacks sparked his appreciation for nature and his early interest in photography.
