Oropéndola
The series explores migratory mourning and the transformations that take place inside someone who changes skin, language and country, who leaves behind a reality to begin again and, in a way, to be reborn in solitude.
In the process, the anguish of losing one's roots appears when voices stop speaking and embraces fade away, memories become distant and everyday life is replaced. When loneliness eats away, fears cry out, emptiness and despair grow.
Until, little by little, the roots grow again, new languages make sense and the face slowly reappears to observe an interior that never ceases to be reborn, like a universe in eternal expansion.
Self-love becomes a cry for freedom and new stories emerge in a heart divided by distances and the illusion of reunions. Of becoming simultaneous realities that protect the value of human diversity.
In order to transmit the internal transformation experienced when emigrating, from a visual poetics of affection, I resorted to analogue interventions on paper and experimental techniques such as colouring with vegetables or the use of ice, which allowed me to change the skin of the photos, alter their materiality and, in short, make present the uncertainty involved in transforming oneself from within.
In addition, the model is from Japan and, after 10 years with different visas and jobs, she managed to become a resident of Australia.
