Entrudo de Outeiro
Entrudo Folhateiro is a tradition that takes place in the village of Outeiro, in the municipality of Montalegre, a small village affected by depopulation and emigration, with less than 150 inhabitants according to the latest census.
It's an ancient tradition, which has become almost extinct due to the high level of migration of that population to other countries. It begins with sowing corn in different lands so that it doesn't get bruised, then goes on to create costumes made from corn, corn beards, kernels and leaflets that are kept from the husk by the people of the village, and culminates on Shrovetide (Entrudo) Day, Carnival Tuesday, when the folhateiros walk through the village with music to cheer up everyone they pass. At the end of the day, and after a convivial meal, Entrudo is burned in the center of the village, and there is always a good mood and lots of music to cheer up everyone who comes to Outeiro's Entrudo Folhateiro.
In the last 12 years he has collaborated with several newspapers, regional, national as freelancer journalist and photojournalist.
Currently he works mainly as a researcher at the University of Porto, and makes photography documentary as an hobby.
