entry description
On the first day of Pro-Palestine encampment in UCSD, I took a series of photos to document things going on during this first day of encampment. Once the encampment started, the school sent an email to its faculties and students to warn people not to join or else they will receive punishments that could get them suspended or arrested. Knowing this warning and also of what already happened in other campuses in the U.S, many still joined encampment. The following series of photo shows various activities and mood of individuals joining or spectating the protest. By law, if you cross the encampment line, you are considered committing a crime. The line forms an invisible barrier of bravery to challenge the system. People outside and inside the encampment all supports a common goal, but complex factors position them in or outside the barrier. The camp forms like a besieged castle, the people inside may want to get out of it, and the people outside may want to get into it. The only thing preventing them to do so is the societal factors that restrain our human functions from acting upon our free will.1: Portrait of a UCSD faculty holding the board with her demands.
