Other Worlds
I have been inspired to do these works by Chinese embroideries, especially one entitled "100 birds". Many different versions of this embroidery exist, but the general theme is of many different birds and flowers depicted naturally and beautifully placed together, as if choreographed in a dance. Together they represent "seasonal harmony and good fortune" and I have recreated this digitally using photos of flora and fuana that I have taken locally to where I live. Included in my digital embroideries are bold beautiful flowers from formal gardens, tiny weeds from street corners, vegetables and small creatures and birds.
I think that my aim as a photographer and artist is to try to make people love "tiny nature" from woodlice to potato flowers, and in this way hope that they come to value the importance of these tiny things in all of our lives.

entry description
In these works I have collated hundreds of photos to create "other worlds", digital embroideries that showcase the incredible colours, textures and beauty of the natural things that surround us. These pictures are part of a longer series that I am currently working on.I have been inspired to do these works by Chinese embroideries, especially one entitled "100 birds". about the photographer
I am an amateur photographer and artist and I live on the Isle of Wight in the UK. I have always been interested in photography but did not take it up seriously until the global pandemic. The island where I live has several formal gardens and a lot trails and tracks, so often go out on my bicycle with my camera. I am fascinated by wild flowers and how different species are successful in different years. Until I had a macro camera I thought that a flower was just a flower - now I realise that flowers insect hotels.I think that my aim as a photographer and artist is to try to make people love "tiny nature" from woodlice to potato flowers, and in this way hope that they come to value the importance of these tiny things in all of our lives.
