Ukraine; those who remain behind
With these portraits I aim to paint the larger picture of a country scarred by collective trauma but also the unique humanity of each of its people.

entry description
I chose this one and only location to shoot these portraits of men, women and child who remain behind the front lines because the beach is a place of peace and quiet as well as a place of strategic importance and of combat. It is where the bodies of those who suffer from the war relax and expose their wounds. It is a place of hope and uncertainty. With these portraits I aim to paint the larger picture of a country scarred by collective trauma but also the unique humanity of each of its people.
