entry description
This series of photographs was taken while cave diving in Yucatan, Mexico in 2017 and 2023. Below the surface of Yucatan is the world's most unique and extensive system of flooded caves. The entrance to the caves is through lakes of different sizes called cenotes. The Maya, the ancient inhabitants of Yucatán, considered the cenotes to be a mystical entrance to the underworld. Perhaps this is why, for some, cave diving in Yucatán may have a touch of the legacy of the original Mayan culture. The cave spaces are absolutely breathtaking and in most cases are decorated with grandiose stalactite decoration.about the photographer
I come from the Czech Republic. I have been a photographer for a long time and after I started diving in 2003, I took this hobby to the underwater world. So now I shoot both "above water" and "under water". I have visited different parts of the world, from warm southern oceans and seas, to geographically temperate places, to northern areas with very cold water. In recent years I have focused on photography in flooded cave systems in the Yucatan.back to gallery
