Smell the Roses
We tried to get as low as possible and used a long focal length to accentuate the size of the rhino, while giving the viewer an almost worm’s eye view of it.
We have travelled extensively in Africa, and to a limited degree in India, for our photography.

A magnificent male Southern White Rhino pauses during its purposeful walk, to inspect a tiny shrub in its path, at Solio Game Reserve in Kenya. Solio is a poster child of rhino conservation and became one of our favourite parks to photograph in while living in Kenya. This photograph was made on a gorgeous autumn morning where the sun had broken through after a whole night of rain. We were stationed on a plain hoping to frame some rhinos against Mount Kenya in the backdrop. This rhino did not oblige with that composition but instead walked parallel to where we were, to enable this composition. We had spent most of the morning till then with our eyes fixed to the viewfinder of the camera. However, after this moment, we just sat back and took it all in with just our senses. We are Preeti and Prashant Chacko, an amateur photographer couple with a passion for the wild, based in Dubai. Photographing the earth's wild spaces fills us with joy, awe and endless positive emotion.
