The "Homage to Rothko" series draws inspiration from the mesmerizing work of Mark Rothko. While taking these photos, I aimed to evoke the textured, layered feeling of his paintings. By moving the camera vertically, I wove a canvas-like texture from the horizontal waves. Using techniques like Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and high ISO, I transformed seascapes into abstract blocks of color, echoing the simplicity and emotional depth of Rothko's signature style.about the photographer
Zili Zhang is an internationally recognized photographer based in Greenwich, CT. Recently named Conceptual Photographer of the Year by Exposure One, he also received Gold from the 1839 Awards and ND Magazine.
