The artwork "Dream Ballad XXIII“ is part of the series "Dream Ballads" which takes place inside a hidden lake where the evening light and dusk reveal a special mystical atmosphere.It depicts a woman who seems to leave the earthly world to travel to a parallel world. Thereby the water represents the border between the two worlds which dissolves as the figure and objects immerse theirselves into it. The bycicle symbolizes the freedom to explore unknown worlds. The apples floating in the water represent the desire to cross boundaries.
about the photographer
Maria Semmer was born in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany in 1979. She studied communication design at the Georg Simon Ohm University in Nuremberg. She continued her studies in Berlin and St. Petersburg. After completing her studies she lived in Rome, Italy for several years, where she intensified her artistic work in the field of fine art photography. Maria Semmer has a focus on dreams, intermediate worlds and the relationship with nature. These themes are expressed in her works which have been exhibited in galleries and museums and published in magazines, catalogues and art books. She currently lives and works in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.back to gallery
