A Place In The Sun
Two young residents of Brussels opened their home for inmates without legal residence in the country, for people without papers.
One thing they all have in common: they are all looking for their place in the sun.
Because no matter how humble, temporary or squatted their home may be, it will always be more than a roof over their heads.
Last summer I was allowed to be part of the cosy chaos that reigns over this squatted home and as a photographer I was allowed to take pictures of the daily reality in the house.
While doing this their couch became my bed and we shared short-dated, but strong involvement.
Brussels, the capital of Europe and a melting pot of cultures, unfortunately has to deal with lots of empty houses, while at the same time the demand for payable houses invreases. Between 15000 and 30000 buildings are uninhabited, which is an eyesore to many people or an unexplored area for creative people and activists looking for a place to live.
