Together
In 2016, the race saw 23 teams, and each team had up to 14 dogs. I spent my morning at the start line as both a dog handler and a photographer, running around with my camera slung over my back, but I met some of the most hardworking and genuine people and captured some of the most amazing memories.
To me, this single photo captures the essence of dogsledding; the care that the mushers provide for their dogs, the intensity of the dogs before each race, and the trust and teamwork that has built up between the two so that they can conquer the wilderness.
While in college, she worked for NPR Baltimore and the local Rehoboth Beach, Delaware newspaper, the Cape Gazette. She later moved on to freelance for the Delaware State News.
Lexi now lives in Birmingham, Alabama with her fiancé, Jordan, and their dog and cat. She works full-time as a community reporter for Starnes Publishing, which creates seven monthly community newspapers in the Birmingham area, although she mainly covers the city of Mountain Brook.
During her free time, she can be found bouldering, spending time outdoors with her dog or working on a long-term documentary photography project with the USAWR wheelchair rugby team.
