With this series, I wanted to explore the different types of people that have tattoos today and their reasoning behind getting it. I wanted to counter the social stigma of having tattoos and show that most people today are not the criminals and gang members that we think of when someone says that they have a full sleeve. These people that I found held a wide variety of jobs and also had different ways of living. There were UPS men, secretaries, students, and many others. I find it so interesting that so many different types of people and they all have a specific reason for getting it. I wanted to share this interest with my audience and open up the door for a new look into the world of tattooing.

entry description
Tattooing has been around for hundreds of years, starting in ancient societies and slowly making its way to the western world. I’ve found that generally, people think of others with tattoos as outlaws, bikers, or gang members, even though this is far from the truth in today’s society. Now, statistics show that one in five people have a tattoo in the United States. With this series, I wanted to explore the different types of people that have tattoos today and their reasoning behind getting it. about the photographer
My name is Brooklyn Gingerich. I graduated from Purdue University in May of 2016 with a degree in photography and related media. I enjoy all types of art, including painting, drawing, and ceramics, and try to incorporate my photography into those other art forms as often as possible. I discovered my love for photography at a young age, and went on to teach myself how to use my camera and random lamps and light sources to get the desired look. I've found that you can create a photo with next to nothing, and that fueled my love for it even more.back to gallery
