Morning routine
I got stuck in Murghab (Tajikistan), one of the main cities on the Pamir Highway. The terminology might be slightly misleading; "highway" doesn't equal "traffic" or even "population". A driver was ready to take me to the Kyzgyz border, but we were waiting for a few extra passengers, and it could take one or two days.
I decided to take the first marshrutka (a "Russian style" shared taxi) which was heading anywhere out of Murghab. We followed a deserted track which seemed to lead nowhere. After a while, I could make out some construction scattered on a plateau. Could it be a village, here, in this far-flung corner of Tajikistan nested in desert mountains?
Wind, sun, dust, mosquitoes and a couple of mud brick houses. Welcome to Rangkul.
I was wondering if they were people leaving here, when I came face to face with this man. He was religiously performing his morning routine and didn't even notice me.
He realizes photoreports and photo projects, and collaborates regularly with journalists, researchers and anthropologists.
He is particularly interested in the interaction of Humans with the environment, and documenting landscapes and changing cultures.
The visual storytelling is central to his approach. A way for him to contribute to raise awareness on global issues.
