With Camera in Hand
I had been taken there by my daughter who bought the tickets as a birthday present and while there I took my first ever selfie, with her, of the event.
Although it was only taken with a compact camera I really liked the picture and it gave me some ideas about what I could do with my DSLR.
The location I chose was the loft of my home and I used the natural light that was provided by the skylight window and a large black blanket behind me to eliminate any stray light or unwanted objects.
With my back to the window I held the camera at arms length just above my head and pointed the camera down until I had achieved the desired effect.
His world as we see it through the lens, captures life in a contemporary form; exposing the sensitivity and beauty nature possesses. With the intention of fabricating both stillness and movement within his shots, Hooper over the years has built a diverse body of work where his creative flare and eye for the bewildering shines through. Combining his passion for art, as well as photography, he mimic's the look of silhouettes in a highly contrasted and atmospheric fashion. Fulfilled with just his camera, an open landscape and the possibility of capturing just one great shot, Hooper thrives on the chance of seizing a single moment in time where no photo can ever be the same. Encapsulating an overall sense of calm just like Don Hooper himself!
