Long Exposure Self-Portrait
The primary focus of my photography is the North Florida costal ecosystem. I am constantly impressed by the intensity of nature within this ecosystem, Darwinian forces seem very hard at work. When a flower blooms thousands of butterflies appear only to be gone days later when the blooms wither. After a storm yards of shoreline are remodeled. A small fraction of any sprouting tree or plant will survive the water and wind whipping across the bay. Death and rebirth are played out daily at multiple levels. I seek to find peace in the harshness, stillness amidst rapid movement, and simple moments surrounded by visual chaos.

entry description
For my new website I wanted a photograph of myself in my place of work. Here I am in my muck boots, long pants, and long sleeve shirt. I also wanted the setting to look like one of my photographs, so this is a 30 second exposure with the bay in the background. I held my breath a very long time.about the photographer
I came to photography three years ago after previously being a jazz pianist and lover of paintings, particularly works of Mark Rothko and Joseph Albers. I believe this past greatly influences my present. From the mathematic aspects of music, I am drawn to simple shapes and geometry playing between balance and dissonance. My admiration of painting leads my eye naturally towards monotone hues or simple complementary colors. The primary focus of my photography is the North Florida costal ecosystem.
