entry description
In the photograph, "Five Swords," I sought to capture the kinetic energy of martial arts in this composition of undulating light streaks and colors. A trained black belt in Kenpo Karate, I performed a series of self-defense maneuvers over an 8-second exposure in a darkened room, using nothing more than a flashlight and a plastic bag to light paint the frame. The result is a layer of controlled chaos, distilling the essence of Kenpo, an art form that uses quick barrages of linear motions to disorient and allow escape.about the photographer
