Who Am I
A question I have often asked myself.
A Woman
A Sister
A Wife
A Mother
A Friend
As a woman, wife and mother I find myself becoming lost to the roles I play in my life, which in turn sees me become a jumbled mess of emotion.
I struggle to remain conscious at times but find when I am able to move out of my head and back into my heart I am able to repeat a mantra 'to breathe, be patient, be still, be what you are in this moment Kellie and nothing more'.
The answer to 'Who Am I' for myself is not that I am one thing or another but that 'I am all of it'
All of the roles I play, all of the emotion, all of the passion, all of the love, all of the craziness, I am a woman, I am a mother and I am a wife and it is my challenge in life to try to breathe and balance them all and not get lost in the process.
Picking up my first SLR camera in 2001, I fell in love with photography in all of its forms and I knew I had found my passion.
Since the days of film, I have loved the whole process of making an image come to life.
I travelled around the world with my now husband for many years and found those years abroad had a strong influence on my photography.
I am a person that enjoys listening to people’s stories and in turn have loved the reciprocity of telling my own.
Returning from my adventures I continued to study Photography, but it wasn’t until I graduated from The Photographic Institute with a Diploma of Professional Photography in 2014 that I found the direction I wanted to take with my photography was changing. I felt I was personally starting to find my confidence and voice as an artist.
Most of the images I produce today are self-portraits.
I conceptualise an image, draw it, plan the shoot then set about packing my car and drive to the location.
I set up my tripod, put on my costume, grab the remote in my hand and set about my pose, usually jumping into the air or twisting myself into some distorted posture.
The whole intent with my photographic art is storytelling.
Rather than reading words, I invite the viewer to evoke their imagination and connect with a story that way.
I love the human form. I see women as intricate and beautiful beings who become the women they are based on experiences they have in their lives.
A deep hope for the images I create is that I am able to connect with people in some small way.
