Life in Colours
In the geometry of color blocks I like to enhance composition with dark silhouettes and deep shadows transforming the image to an almost abstract "patchwork" - upgrading composition above only description. Shadows and silhouettes can act almost like a “negative space” for colour.
The great painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir said: “I've been 40 years discovering that the queen of all colors was black.”
I think colour have a different quality and „sing“ next with black areas.
I was born and lived in Lisbon and since 1983 I live in Caldas da Rainha - a small town in central Portugal
And, it is certain that the photographer has gradually taken the place of the doctor in me. But, fortunately, because I was a doctor, I can now shoot without being a photographic “functionary”. I might not be able to make photography that someone ordered.
I´m trying to photograph daily life in my city not as it presents itself, but the way I see it. And trying to find my own voice.
On the streets I´m happy to discover daily miracles that arise as fragments of a parallel dimension where the ordinary and banal can be extraordinary.

I am a Portuguese medical doctor (gastroenterologist) that after retirement, resumed an old passion asleep: Photography. An healthy and saving obsession that “forces” me to walk every day. Without photography I probably couldn’t exist.I was born and lived in Lisbon and since 1983 I live in Caldas da Rainha - a small town in central Portugal
