entry description
To date, this is probably one of my favorite photos I have ever created. It was taken in Late July 2017. I drove 3 hours and hiked 6 miles to the Mount Fremont Fire Lookout in Mount Rainier National Park. A fellow photographer and I went specifically on this night for the new moon (only 2% moon illumination) and we knew the galaxy core/band would line up with the mountain perfectly vertical like this. We arrived at the viewpoint around 7 pm but stayed late into the night. The milky way shot was taken around 1:45 am. It was a truly surreal experience. I had never seen the milky way with my own eyes before nor have I really shot astrophotography prior to this night. This adventure sparked a desire in me to dive deeper into a whole new realm of photography. This image is a composite of a sunset panorama of Mt Rainier (13sec F/16 ISO 400) and a milky way exposure that I shot that same evening from the same spot (15sec F/2.8 ISO 3200) both shot on my Canon 7D with my Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM lens)
