entry description
On a once-in-a-lifetime dream come true expedition to South Georgia, we were fortunate to make a landing at Salisbury Plains, despite tempestuous 50-knot winds that were blasting our Russian icebreaker ship just a couple of hours ago. Against a dreamlike backdrop of mountains and glaciers, this place is home to the world's second largest king penguin colony consisting of over 250,000 regal birds at various stages of their lives. After appreciating the frenetic activity surrounding me and coming back to earth, I grabbed my camera and started composing shots. In the green tussock grass, I spotted four amigos battling it out for dominance by sticking their heads up high in the air and slapping each other. Then, in the most densely populated area of the colony, I patiently waited for a penguin to call out among its peers. Lastly, I focused on the details of the plumage. Wow! What majestic birds! I will forever treasure this experience!about the photographer
