entry description
The image was taken in 2018 in Cuba while snorkeling with the Amercian saltwater crocodiles. With the right angle and lightning the crocodile gets nearly completely mirrored on the water surface from below the surface. The challenging part was to get a flat surface in the ocean, which was working out. The only waves seen are produced by the swimming movement of the crocodile itself. One Ikelite DS-161 strobe was used in combination with the Ikelite housing for the Canon EOS 7D.
about the photographer
Since I am a child I was fascinated and slightly scared by sharks. Consequently, I became a diver by the age of 12. I started (underwater) photography in 2011 with the main focus on sharks and their relatives. This passion allowed me to go deeper into photography in general, but the love for all big animals underwater, especially sharks, never was reduced. In the end, with my pictures I would mainly like to show nature in its native beauty in order to make people think about how careless we deal with our oceans and especially the sharks (finning: Around 100.000.000 sharks are killed every year for their fins).back to gallery
