Uncertainty
At certain moments in our lives, it is like time stands still. We know for a fact that nothing will ever be the same again. It can be a scary, daunting and a very emotional time.
I believe that everyone actually constantly exists in a state of uncertainty - no human being is 'immune' to illness, death, age or disaster, all we can do is choose HOW to deal with it.
This series explores our relationship to the body and seeks to express, through the language of dance, our emotions when faced with our own and possibly imminent mortality.
The body is central to our emotions and sometimes words just cannot express their depth and complexity. I find that dance is like a universal language, especially to communicate emotions and relationships, while leaving room for the viewer to explore their own emotions and interpret whatever it means to them.
I choose to photograph exact moments in time where the dancer appears in a state of equilibrium, where it is uncertain wether they are falling or wether the captured shape of the movement is part of the choreography - are they in control or not? It is deliberately an open question.
I believe this Uncertainty to be part of the human condition.
I work in different mediums, my favourite is Photography, but also drawing, painting, model making, video, projections, animation and installation, and I love collaborating with interesting people. There are however themes that run through all my works which revolve around 'Place', 'Identity' and 'Perception'.

about the photographer
Growing up as a 'Third Culture Kid', I have called a multitude of very different countries 'home', and it has always been difficult to pin down exactly 'where I'm from'. My artistic subject matter and body of work are therefore, I think, equally diverse - and very difficult to fit into any one category.I work in different mediums, my favourite is Photography, but also drawing, painting, model making, video, projections, animation and installation, and I love collaborating with interesting people. There are however themes that run through all my works which revolve around 'Place', 'Identity' and 'Perception'.
