entry description
The Hexagrams series studies the differing ways in which an object’s use is shown visually. All images in the series contain some form of text or graphic imagery, symbols that provide a practical way of communicating usage. An understanding of these symbols will give the viewer insight into what larger entity the object may belong to, or refer to a specific way it is to be used. Additionally, the images in this series all show a more immediate evidence of the objects usage, in the form of rust, abrasions, or other such alterations. These visual signs of usage are understood intuitively, offering an immediate understanding of the nature of the object and the forces it has been subject to.about the photographer
My work is a study of the visual properties of necessity or utility. The goal is to document visual characteristics of subjects whose forms are a product of intended purpose, and therefore are unconcerned with a preconceived idea of desirable appearance. Subjects with this indifference towards any visual qualities that do not exist to further function are the basis for creating my images.back to gallery
