entry description
Vithal Birdev Yatra Festival is organized annually by shepherd community in a small village of Maharastra, India. Birdev is Deity of this community. Devotees offer Bhandara (turmeric powder) and goat’s hair to their Deity. Thousands of devotees from nearby states gather in front of the temple for prayers. Devotees shower Bhandara on each other and on Baba (holy man) to whom they consider as representative of their Deity. On this day Baba also predicts the future of crops, climate & business. Devotees beat big drums, spin huge traditional umbrellas, sings folk songs and do acrobatics. Roof of temple at bottom right is filled with hairs of goat which are donated by devotees. Whole place looks golden with the color of turmeric powder.about the photographer
