Melanie Haberkorn germany
title
"The Guesthouse - Room 3: Gerti N."
„The Guesthouse“ is a refuge for complex personalities and their little escapes. Here the travelers can escape for a while from the real world and its demands in favor of their inner (illusory) reality.
On the borderline between outer appearance and imaginary self, Melanie Haberkorn's productions create different syntheses of the two worlds in a subtly humorous way. Like film posters, (life) stories are condensed in the detailed photographs of the guesthouse’s guests, which are intended to arouse the viewer's interest and imagination without offering a complete resolution. The props are primarily taken from the luggage of the portrayed persons, but found objects from the rooms of the guesthouse are also integrated. In this way, the viewer not only learns something about the guests, but also gains an impression of the atmosphere and furnishings of the Guesthouse „Otto“, a lovingly run family business in the center of Cologne.
Melanie Haberkorn's works have been awarded prizes in numerous competitions and published in professional journals. For her book "Alternative Film Stills" she received the German Photo Book Award in bronze in 2019.
Melanie Haberkorn lives and works as a freelance artist in Cologne. Her works can be viewed and purchased as FineArt-Prints in her studio.
