In the sun
La Alberca, Salamanca, Spain
My fascination with photography started in the 1960s with the publication of the iconic image of a baboon in full flight turning to confront the chasing leopard. Today, the image still acts as a carrot on a stick, taunting me to achieve its standard with the taking of the next photograph. Combine this with the excitement of travel and the world becomes an amazing place, providing opportunity across the photographic genres of landscapes, cityscapes, events, portraits and wildlife.

entry description
In many places, the houses were so tall and the streets so narrow that sunlight could penetrate the shadows only around noon. I recall one tiny intersection where two women were basking in the sunshine when a donkey loaded with firewood plodded silently down the lane. It was as if La Alberca had been frozen in a time warp from long ago. But that was not the whole story. For late one evening, as I sat on a stone step enjoying the heady music of a concert pianist wafting through the stillness of the summer night, a pair of wooden barn doors suddenly sprung open and a shiny red Porsche purred quietly past, navigating the maze of narrow passageways leading out of the village.La Alberca, Salamanca, Spain
