Washing Away My Sorrows
It makes me happy to know that one day my future grandchildren will be able to go to any major museum or local art gallery and see their likeness showcased in their collections. Although these photos don't take away the wounding that came from feeling excluded in world of fine art the past, it did heal something in my soul. I hope that you enjoy these photos and that they will serve as a healing agent in the hearts of all who view them.

entry description
After George Floyd was killed, I began to rethink my life. One of the things that I noticed was that I supported the fine arts community, but as a African American woman, I saw myself so infrequently on the walls of top galleries and in museums. I decided to change that. So, I challenged the artist Marissa Oosterlee to include women of color in her work. Then she challenged me by asking me to send her some photos to reference for future paintings. With the help of Facebook, and the support of UCLA and USC, I was able to source some models and to create an amazing photo shoot. Marissa said that she wanted each model to leave their sorrows in the water, so I'm captioning this entry (as Marissa did her painting series of women floating in water) "Washing Away My Sorrow".It makes me happy to know that one day my future grandchildren will be able to go to any major museum or local art gallery and see their likeness showcased in their collections. Although these photos don't take away the wounding that came from feeling excluded in world of fine art the past, it did heal something in my soul. I hope that you enjoy these photos and that they will serve as a healing agent in the hearts of all who view them.
