2.5 Million Years
The foreground was added with a separate exposure on top of a tracked one for the sky and galaxy (5x3 minutes each). I could only take 5 exposures of the sky before the moon rose too high but was still able to control noise thanks to the fantastic medium format camera sensor.
Photos like those are not easy to pull off, but they convey the magic of what we can witness on our own planet.

This is a timeblend of 2.5 million years since the Andromeda Galaxy's distance is 2.5 million light years - that of Mount Ortler in the South Tyrolean Alps is not.The foreground was added with a separate exposure on top of a tracked one for the sky and galaxy (5x3 minutes each). I could only take 5 exposures of the sky before the moon rose too high but was still able to control noise thanks to the fantastic medium format camera sensor.
