LIKE SILK
Silk is a precious fabric that comes from an insect, the silkworm, that secretes a filament used to create the cocoon that it will use as protection during the metamorphosis. I like to think that our period of lockdown has served this purpose, to weave our silk towards a new path made of awareness and priority. Deprivation from things, previously taken for granted, has taught us to recognize them, see them, appreciate them.
So today, outside, I take from nature new magical aspects previously ignored.
We have learned to listen to our most uncomfortable emotions, such as melancholy, nostalgia, loneliness and to read time under a new lens, discovering that the real secret is knowing how to wait.
The images come from my unconscious, it was not my mind that suggested what to shoot but it was my eye that focused on what it thought was exciting. The series is therefore not the result of a priori rational thought, but it was the posthumous vision of the images together that suggested the story, investigating my urgency and need to grasp certain aspects of nature and myself, through self-portraits.
I was born in Rome in 1987 and I have always been passionate about the world of Art. I graduated with a diploma in cultural heritage at the artistic high school in Rome and studied jazz music and singing up to the age of 23. I started to approach photography only at the age of 30 by attending various courses and workshops on photography technique and language at the Association “Officine Fotografiche” (OF). I was trained by some great professionals well-known in the world of photography, including Simona Ghizzoni, Lina Pallotta, Lila April, Silvia Camporesi, Michela Palermo, Graziano Panfili.
I immediately became interested in the invisible aspects which photography is capable of revealing and bringing to light, as well as in its ability to look and dig into one's own unconscious.
In my opinion photography is not (just) a means of reproducing a visible part of reality, but an artistic tool capable of transforming reality, redesigning it according to the gaze of the photographer who looks at the world through their own sensitivity and needs.
I translate my emotions and my story into images by using a mainly metaphorical and conceptual photographic language. The self-portrait technique, which I often utilize as a means of personal research and analysis tool, helps me understand and overcome my own fears.
