Sleeping With Mosquitoes
Many of the villagers still do not use mosquito nets during the night; For some of them, the nearest clinic is hours away, on foot; And in addition to all of that, the area suffers from a shortage of clean water for drinking, especially during the dry season. Although the situation has improved noticeably in recent years, there is a stiil a long way to go.
This is a series of portraits of locals, armed with new nets, sitting in their bedrooms, where their fight against Malaria takes place every night.

entry description
Despite being almost completely exterminated in many areas on earth, Malaria remains one of the leading causes of death in some developing countries, mainly in Africa. In the remote village of Kyeihara, located in western Uganda, new mosquito nets have been distributed by the government to the locals. These nets serve as the most affordable and efficient way to deal with mosquito-related diseases. Combined with the care of the local clinic workers, the area has not seen a Malaria death in a very long time, though new cases still appear daily. Many of the villagers still do not use mosquito nets during the night; For some of them, the nearest clinic is hours away, on foot; And in addition to all of that, the area suffers from a shortage of clean water for drinking, especially during the dry season.
