entry description
This Hindu temple is breathtaking and a bit surreal considering that it is nestled in between the edge of southern California suburbia and the 71 Highway. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is for its followers and to the public alike. Mandir temples are dedicated to one primary deity, the presiding deity and others associated with the main one. The word 'Mandir' is made of the Sanskrit words 'mana' meaning 'inner self' and 'dir'; a place where the inner self lives in. The giant concrete lotus is actually a water fountain. I suspect, because of the water restrictions during the drought that southern California is having, may be the reason why it wasn't operating in full swing. Using a 15mm wide angle lens I wanted to exaggerate the image and the splendor of the temple.back to gallery
