title
Ascension
The concept expressed in the series is the ascension of Man, who wants to rise from his earthly form, making a journey through a series of metamorphoses.
The abandonment of the ego is part of the process of deconstruction and reconstruction, the ability to separate and reorganize the elements of the psychological process as a function of renewal, The destructive transformation of the Self into something totally other.
This process of metamorphosis reflects an aspect of the encounter of the psyche with its development, the concept of the liberation of the soul, towards the conjunction of the unity of being.
Man presents himself in the earthly form of him, a human body without a face. He first strips himself of his flesh, losing contact with physical reality, abandoning the limbs that kept him anchored to the ground.
The ascension of him continues in a layered path towards the essence of him, abandoned the flesh remains the skeleton. Lightened in his weight by him, his body is now enveloped in light, it frees itself from any residue of his form to meet it and become one with it.
In the last part of his journey he no longer has an earthly form, he has become a being of light, pure essence, which is part of the space that surrounds him and animates him.
The series was created in the studio with the light paining technique, integrating some real elements (human body, masks) to the pure design of light, made with optical fiber and plexiglass connected to a torch to which a red color filter was applied. .
Photos are long exposures with take time from 30 to 100 seconds.
recently he worked for Marvel Studios, making promotional photos for the cast of the film "Eternals" Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan and the director Chloe Zaho, in the setting of the Colosseum in Rome.

about the photographer
Mattia Stefanini (1986, Italy) is a photographer and lightpainter from Senigallia (AN). Always passionate about drawing, he began his studies at the “Edgardo Mannucci” Institute of Art, where he studied disciplines such as painting, digital graphics, video shooting and editing. His career in digital art continues at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino, where he studies graphics, animation and photography. He graduated in 2009 with a thesis on bianural beats, which combines graphics, animation, programming and electronic music. His photographic artistic language is expressed in the nocturnal landscape, which allows him to shape light through time to create compositions of surrealist inspiration. Always dedicated to experimentation, to these scenarios he adds forms of light created with the lightpainting technique, detaching himself even more from reality and to enter the imagination. By painting with light sources through long exposure, he uses the landscape as a painter uses the canvas, painting his vision dreamlike to return it to the observer. He teaches in workshops and courses the technique of lightpainiting, applying it to still life, portrait and landscape photography. He attended photography courses with Lorenzo Cicconi Massi, Emanuele Scorcelletti, and Graziano Panfili.recently he worked for Marvel Studios, making promotional photos for the cast of the film "Eternals" Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan and the director Chloe Zaho, in the setting of the Colosseum in Rome.
