entry description
Fungi are fascinating subjects for photography, but in fact most of a fungal organism is the mycelium, a dense network of fibres hidden in the soil or rotting wood. The fruiting bodies - the mushrooms - which we photograph or eat require rain to grow, so I will usually wait for a few day's downpour before hunting them out. To indicate this vital relationship with water, and create a more attractive image, I use a water spray to suggest rain, and light the scene from behind with an LED panel.about the photographer
I live in Manchester, UK, and have been a keen macro photographer since 2017. Macro photography combines my love of nature and art into a passion for capturing the beauty of the world of minibeasts, flowers, leaves and fungi; I am no happier than when kneeling in front of a butterfly in a wildflower meadow, Nikon D500 in hand. I also enjoy landscapes, astro, and abstract photography. I give talks to camera clubs on several photography topics.back to gallery
