FOOD-iD
"The taste is in the foreground and the product is the star".
This is the credo of most (top) chefs.
FOOD-iD is my attempt to deal with this guiding principle from the point of view and with the means of a photographer.
The taste is not visible, so I focus on the colours and textures that give each product and the resulting dishes their own identity.
I wanted to portray the food during the "mise en place". However, outside the classic kitchen set up.
My work is very intuitive, so it just so happened that on the day of the shoot I was given a packet of black tissue paper (as packaging material).
The curved and crumpled structure, after spreading out the previously crumpled paper, reminded me of a volcanic crater and fitted perfectly with a handmade small bowl made of black volcanic clay.
The clay, which comes from Lanzarote, gives the bowl an extraordinary hardness as well as a unique character in texture and expression. I arranged everything in front of my kitchen window and took the picture there.
The resulting monochrome rush of colour and the play of daylight and texture of the background enhance the qualities of the food and set it off as the real star of the picture.
In his first participation in a photo competition, the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2018, MXPRIVÉ's entry was shortlisted.
In autumn 2020, he started working on the photo series "FOOD-iD".
At the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2021, he won first place in the category: "Spayne Lindsay On the Phone". Further awards for this photo series were to follow.
His project "GETTING CLOSE - TEMPODROM" is now published after three years of work.
