entry description
The (Mesquite Flat) Sand Dunes of Death Valley can be quite beautiful at sunrise. With deep shadows and the warm glow of sunrise, many shapes and textures reveal themselves. This landscape will, however, quickly become inhospitable and far more washed-out in appearance as the day progresses with the rising sun and temperatures. These sand dunes are quite large and dwarf the two people walking up the side of a sand dune in the center of the image (which may not be clearly visible in this low-resolution copy of the image). This image was captured in February, right after sunrise, with a 36MP Nikon D800 and Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 lens.
