Alexander Ivashkevich estonia
title
"Today's Look from the Past"
These works are a series of vintage psychological portraits of ordinary people, our contemporaries living in our city, people of different professions, different ages, different destinies and characters, who are united by emotional immersion in another era.
It seems to me that today, in such a rapidly changing time with an actively developing industry, the deep concepts of dignity, honor, and sincerity that have been developed over the centuries by mankind remain beyond the scope of our lives.
That is why I would like to once again remind and enable today's people to return to the beautiful feelings of the past. Preparing for a project, working with selected models, subtly establishing contact between the “director” and the “actor”, I manage to return a person to the wonderful world of different emotions that we often miss in everyday life, trying to do as much as possible, but at the same time losing the opportunity to do a lot.
This project is also important for me because in photography, as well as on the stage, which is a platform for talking with the public, there is an opportunity to plunge into another space, another time, into other emotions.
I am convinced that a person has a need to feel the world much deeper and thinner than today's time offers us.
The artist’s interest in fine art and photography was further instigated by his life-long career in the dramatic theatre sphere. Photographer's attitude is rooted not only in the artist’s desire to investigate the personality and even the mood of the model but also in a determination to challenge the status quo.
Artistic, psychological, vintage portraits, and boudoir series - Alexander's photoshoots always create an exquisite interplay between such notions as gestures and expressions, the model’s inner world making public, and dialogue with the artist and audience. People who have posed to Ivashkevich often declare that this is one of the most aesthetic ways of psychotherapy.
Alexander has found his own special and easily recognizable style; all of his photo works are framed individually and are presented and sold only with frames. He also implements the French technique of verre églomisé (application of both a design and gilding onto the rear face of glass), which creates exclusive pieces of fine art.
He has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions (22 solo and 10 collective exhibitions) and his works are owned within private collections in Germany, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, UK, and USA.
