honorable mention
Bianca Burgo italy
title
TERRA
Over the last few years I have collected several images during the holiday periods spent in my hometown, precisely in the historic center where I grew up, Ortigia, a place to which I am viscerally linked and to which I largely owe what I am today.
The project is currently part of a small independent publication, which bears the same title and contains, in 72 pages, images and poems produced by me in the periods spent in my land.
The images are both in color and in black and white as I have chosen a type of narration that combines two worlds in telling only one, which has always been full of facets, points of light and shadow. I work a lot by contrast, I don't like to focus on just one aspect of things.
“My world is divided. There are colors, there is music, there is laughter, there is love. My world is divided. There is nostalgia, there is fear, a very deep distance between me and what makes noise all around. My world is divided and from that gap between the two poles there is me, everything I see, dream, there are my contradictions that do not need to find a square. Some things are beautiful like this, broken. "
Her passion for photography and communication have accompanied her since she was a child.
After graduating from high school, she moved to Milan to pursue a three-year degree in Graphic Degin and Art Direction at NABA, the new academy of fine arts, achieved with full marks.
In 2020 she was called as the only scene photographer for the Xfactor Italia program where she worked until December 2022.
She has also worked as a stage photographer in various music festivals such as the "Ortigia Sound System" and "Opera Festival" in Sicily.
Over the years, far from home, she has carried out various personal projects, showing a strong interest in her land, Sicily and for the local people.
She has always been a great observer and lover of the simplest realities, fascinated by what she defines as the “extraordinary prodigy of banality”.
She currently lives in Rome, actively working as a photographer.
