title
City Kids
I myself am of a generation from before computers, smartphones and social media but I have children who have grown up with all this. As parents, my wife and I have often felt that both we, and children in general, pay a high cost on order to harvest the obvious benefits of electronic devices and social media. A cost including the fact, that many children and young people struggle with loneliness, insecurity and anxiety.
In this short series, I show the children as I often see them in the streets of Copenhagen - in more or less solitary play - but with their parents just outside the picture frame.
Sometimes his findings initiate ideas for projects or themes, which leads to more specific searches.
Drawing from over 30 years of experience in stock and travel related photography his is now mainly focused on creative projects of personal interest.
Henrik Pyndt Sorensen (born 1956) is a self taught photographer based in Copenhagen.
Since 1999 he has been associated with stock agencies Biofoto and Ritzau Scanpix as stringer.

entry description
"City Kids" is a series about children in the streets of Copenhagen. Children playing freely in the streets have become a rare sight. It only happens in controlled, protected environments - parks, playgrounds etc. - and the children are always accompanied by adults. The children we no longer see playing outside are probably sitting at home in front of some kind of screen, communicating with their playmates via social media.I myself am of a generation from before computers, smartphones and social media but I have children who have grown up with all this. As parents, my wife and I have often felt that both we, and children in general, pay a high cost on order to harvest the obvious benefits of electronic devices and social media. about the photographer
Serendipity, which can be described as finding, without searching specifically, and then acknowledging new values in the findings, plays a major role in Henrik Pyndt Sørensen's photography. He walks random places with his camera until his eye captures moments that correspond with his mind. He is fascinated by extraordinary expressions in ordinary environments and translates them into often complex compositions which he hopes will encourage viewers to form their own narratives.Sometimes his findings initiate ideas for projects or themes, which leads to more specific searches.
