Elder of A Hua
As we meandered through the village, we came upon her sitting and smoking in her doorway, backdropped perfectly by the dimly lit interior. She obliged a photograph and we went on our way.

entry description
An elder of A Hua village, a small enclave located just east of the Ho Chi Minh trail near the Laos border in central Vietnam. She is one of the few individuals who still remembers the war and her people's forced displacement from their coastal homeland in the aftermath, meant to retain newly gotten land from Laotian reclamation attempts. Despite A Hua's extraordinarily idyllic demeanor, the valley it's nestled in saw some of the heaviest fighting during the war. Nowadays, her people live in peace and strive for a secure and prosperous future. As we meandered through the village, we came upon her sitting and smoking in her doorway, backdropped perfectly by the dimly lit interior. She obliged a photograph and we went on our way.
