entry description
The evergreen misty forest of Garajonay National Park has been protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986. La Gomera has more than half of the entire Laurisilva population of all Canary Islands. The unique eco-system of the Laurisilva is thought to be the remnant of subtropical woods which covered the Mediterranean area during the Tertiary period. The national park has many varieties of Laurels (Ocotea foetens, Laurus novocanariensis), which can grow to over 15m, as well as a multitude of other, mostly endemic plants and trees (Ilex perado spp. platyphylla, Juniperus turbinata ssp. Canariensis). The misty clouds allow for the growth of wonderful moss, lichen and ferns (Woodwardia radicans, Polystichum setiferum, Davallia canariensis). This is a series taken in September 2021 in Garajonay forest
