Dusky Langur family
Dusky Langurs (Trachypithecus obscurus) are a vegetarian species mainly confined to Malaysia. The species has unofficially been rated as the cutest monkey species in the world with the eye-ring contributing to their perennially surprised look. They are generally a non-aggressive species that are also family-centric. They live in the forests in troops of 15-20 individuals led by an alpha male with the majority of the remainder being females. Young males are ‘pushed ‘ out of the troop aged around 4 years. The babies, all fathered by the alpha-male, are born with orange-coloured fur which changes in the next 4 months to the adult colouration. The alpha male also directs the daily movements of the troop and is responsible for security.
Graeme retired to Penang Island in Malaysia in 2011 with his wife Helen where he had more time for nature photography.
