entry description
After a period of profound existential and physical crisis, caused by wrong human and professional choices, in the middle of my winter I chose to embark on a photographic travel, in the summer, through the long strip of stone, rocks and sand suspended up to 5000 meters, between Tajikistan, Pakistan and China. The Whakan Corridor, Afghanistan. I chose it because I have always been fascinated by this people who, beyond stereotypes and cultural foundations far from the Western world, have chosen to base their resistance to external agents on their millenary tribal tradition. I was looking outside of myself for something that would make me stronger; I wanted to walk on a new harsh land but at the same time fertile with new fruits that would still make me able to resist adversity, without being overwhelmed again by the difficulties of my daily life. And I met on the other side of my world a strip of extreme land, inhabited by a few thousand nomadic farmers and shepherds. I searched within myself for the courage of a new role in my world, mirroring myself in the daily life of these tribes, to re-exist humanly and creatively, reopening my eyes to my world through their world. In the Whakan Corridor opium has passed and continues to pass towards Russia and China; from here the USSR entered Afghanistan in 1979 along the military road M41; from here China today passes its goods to all the -Stans of this world. Today the Whakan is on the gaming table of the interests of the Taliban, Americans, Chinese and Russians. In the latest chronicles it resonates overwhelmingly as a weak anthropological barrier between the north, south and east of the world. At what price?about the photographer
