To create this piece, I created a metal sculpture that symbolizes a deep sea fish, the angler fish. It attracts prey deep in the dark ocean waters using a light that emanates from the end of fishing-rod-like extension on its forehead. However, the prey being lured is a fish fossil and the backdrop location for the objects is a dry lake bed in SE Oregon. I photographed this scene during the night in order to control the dramatic lighting by use of a technique called light painting.
