"On The Brink" is an attempt to evoke a sense of life lived in the liminal space between land and sea, and the human struggle to make a living, build community, and put down roots in a part of the world that, at first blush, is thoroughly inhospitable, but that comes to life with beautiful colourful details, as long as you know where to look. In highlighting this juxtaposition, the artist hopes to show just how vibrant and fulfilling the lives lived in these spaces can be, and have been for centuries.Taken over several days in July, 2023, on Fogo Island and in the Little Fogo Islands.

Jonathan is a Toronto-based former jazz musician who has kept one foot in the Canadian music and art worlds to the extent possible, despite his second career as a tax lawyer and financial executive. For most of the past decade, that has meant being an avid concertgoer, art buyer, and donor, but of late he has begun to explore the possibility of pursuing a more serious interest in landscape and architectural photography. He is thoroughly an amateur, but one with a keen personal sense of expressive style. Who knows? Maybe some tax lawyers DO have some personality!back to gallery
