Milky Way Studies
And then the capturing of the shots is also very difficult! You are taking long exposures in the dark, which means it is hard to focus on the tiny faint stars. Not to mention it is usually cold, and often windy! But the results are very rewarding, when you see the wonders of the universe appear on your computer screen.

entry description
This is a series of images of the Milky Way taken at remote locations in England, Wales, and La Palma in the Canaries. I wanted to capture the Milky Way in its full glory with its beautiful variety of colours and shapes, containing billions of stars. Astrophotography is challenging as it requires numerous difficult conditions to be fulfilled. You need a clear night, with little light pollution (so far from towns), with no Moon. You also need an attractive foreground subject, such as a mountain, tree, or lake, or something manmade such as a building. And then the capturing of the shots is also very difficult! about the photographer
I live in Manchester, UK, and have been a keen macro photographer since 2017. Macro photography combines my love of nature and art into a passion for capturing the beauty of the world of minibeasts, flowers, leaves and fungi; I am no happier than when kneeling in front of a butterfly in a wildflower meadow, Nikon D500 in hand. I also enjoy landscapes, astro, and abstract photography. I give talks to camera clubs on several photography topics.back to gallery
