Signs of Freedom
The subject in the image is my daughter and I. I love incorporating my daughter into my photography, particularly when creating a metaphor. Having recently moved to Australia, my family (and daughter especially) is experiencing new found freedom, with less worries about being the victims of crime. On the day this photo was taken, my daughter had been running around on the beach completely carefree while I was taking photos. I asked her to stand next to me with her arms stretched out for a photo with me (it's not an easy task getting a 6-year old to stand still for a 1 second exposure). It was the last photo I took for the day before packing the drone away so that I could play with her in the waves. For me, this image is beautiful because it tells the story of a dad and a daughter, standing on a beach celebrating their new home and freedom.... Something that is so simple, yet complex to achieve - just as this image is minimal yet complex to capture.
As a minimalist and aspiring digital artist, I fell in love with the emotion that could be conveyed through the simple and abstract compositions that can be achieved from the air. This is probably one of the reasons I’m drawn to seascapes and beaches – the movement of the ocean and its patterns and textures are mesmerising for me. For me, creating art through my photography is more than just the act of clicking a button or the number of likes my image might receive (there are way too many amazing photographers out there to be focused on that). It’s about the process of getting out into nature, often on an early morning when the air is crisp and quiet. It’s seeing the sky change colours and hearing the waves against the rocks while waiting for that perfect moment.

entry description
For this image, I used my drone with a ND Filter to achieve a shutter setting of 1 sec to capture the motion of the waves rolling onto shore. I then used a composite with another image, of the same location and composition that I had I taken moments before, to capture and highlight the clarity of the water. The subject in the image is my daughter and I. about the photographer
I started out with drone photography back in 2017, although I had no intention to get too serious about the photography aspect as I initially just liked drone technology. But, once I got my drone into the sky for the first time, I noticed the unique images that a person can capture. I guess I’m a creator at heart and naturally started gravitating towards the creative/artistic side of drone photography, which has seen my images change a lot stylistically over the years. As a minimalist and aspiring digital artist, I fell in love with the emotion that could be conveyed through the simple and abstract compositions that can be achieved from the air.
