EYES - THE WINDOW TO THE SOUL
However, my perspective changed with Jill, a 15-year-old Appaloosa mare. We met in December 2019 when she, along with her owner, moved to our stable, and we girls quickly became friends. I often took care of Jill, and our bond grew stronger over time.
The diagnosis in September 2022 was incomprehensible for all of us: a genetic defect was responsible for her losing sight in one eye within 3 weeks, leading to its removal. The other eye was also affected and deteriorated rapidly.
Nevertheless, all of this never dimmed Jill's zest for life. Even without eyes, she continues to share with me and her surroundings how she's feeling. Does she feel uncomfortable, uncertain, or dissatisfied? Is she relaxed, curious, or playful? She lets us know, in her very own way.
